First Impressions: Are You Doing It Correctly?
Much like meeting friends, coworkers, and new family members, first impressions are crucial for establishing the image of your company to a potential customer. Appearing friendly, knowledgeable, and trustworthy are key elements when meeting with customers for the first time. In the contracting industry, a first impression will make or break a customer’s decision to choose your company. There are a few types of first impressions:
Internet Presence - Long ago, before the internet was around, businesses had to rely on paper ads, billboards, and other types of media outlets to promote their business. In a digital age, need for that has gone down, and the need for an internet presence has gone up: and this can range anywhere from social media posts, to websites, to paid advertisements. Customers can and will do research on your company beforehand, and the internet presence they see forms a first impression long before they even pick up the phone to call your company. It's important to make sure all your information is up to date on your Google Business listing, on Facebook, and other places such as hours of operation, location, contact information (email and phone), and photos.
Calling the Business - After performing some research and getting an idea of what type of company, the customer may call your business and ask questions and gather more information. Whether they talk directly to you, or a member of your office staff, it is important to remain friendly, professional, and attentive. If you sound distracted, uninterested, or rude, they will take their business elsewhere.
The Estimate - Since this will mostly likely be conducted in person, you or one of your estimators/salesmen should be dressed appropriately and have a neat appearance and appear on time and prepared. This will most likely be your first in-person impression on the customer and the last step before they make a final decision, so end on a high note!
All in all, following these first impression tips will help you win over your customers and spread word of mouth about the positive encounter with your and your company!
